Mount Kailash Kora | Please accept this detailed and perfect guide:
👉 The Kora route, over 50 kilometers, typically takes two days (though it can be done in one or three days; locals usually do it in one, starting at around three or four in the morning). Walk clockwise. On the first day, from the entrance to the Monastery at Dirapuk, it’s advisable to start early. After reaching the Monastery around noon, head down to the base of the sacred mountain to see the glaciers up close; this requires some determination. The remaining journey is completed on the second day.
❤️ For those not in great physical shape, it’s recommended to take three days:
🔷 Day 1: Accommodation at the Monastery at Dirapuk.
🔷 Day 2: Rise early to see the glaciers at the base of the sacred mountain, then head to the base after crossing Dolma La Pass to stay overnight.
🔷 Day 3: Head towards Darchen, about 20 kilometers away, which will be much easier.
💰 Tickets: 150 yuan. From the prayer flag square, about 8 kilometers, you can take a sightseeing bus for 60 yuan. Before 6:30 in the morning, when the staff hasn’t started working, tickets aren’t required. Winter visits to Tibet are free.
⏰ Timing: Recommended from May to October. During the spring and winter, heavy snowfall closes the route, and the supply points along the way are also closed. Not recommended for travel during this time.
⚠️ Dolma La Pass has an altitude of 5700 meters. Climb slowly, be wary of altitude sickness, and immediately descend if there are any signs of discomfort.
🍀 Travel light (you can bring a trekking pole). There are many supply points along the way. Although the road is good, don’t rush, especially on the stretch leading to Dolma La Pass.
🌞 Apart from the necessary ID and border passes, bring some change.
🌲 Protect the environment; don’t litter.
❤️ High altitude, low temperatures, strong UV radiation; take precautions against sunburn, cold, and altitude sickness.
