Motuo used to be the only county in China where you had to buy a ticket to enter, and it’s the last county in China to have a road connection. It boasts stunning landscapes with snow-capped mountains, waterfalls, and ancient villages.
How to Get to Motuo?
Self-Driving: Take the Zhamo Highway, but note that the highway closes after 8:00 PM.
Bus: There’s only one bus from Nyingchi to Motuo, departing from Bayi Town at 8:00 AM.
Note: You need a border permit and ID to enter Motuo.
Best Time to Visit: April-May and September-November.
About Motuo:
Motuo means “flower” in Tibetan. It’s a county under Nyingchi City, Tibet, nestled on the southern slope of the Himalayas. Entrance tickets were once required, but they were abolished in March 2023.
