🟡 Preparing for Departure:
🔘 Border Permit: Processing starts at 9:30 AM at the window in Shigatse. Simply bring your ID card; the wait time is about 40 minutes.
🔘 Oxygen Backup: 3 liters + 10 liters (per person for one night)
– In Shigatse, local shops offer 2 cans of 3-liter pure oxygen for 600 yuan 💰.
– At Everest Base Camp, due to severe altitude sickness, I rented 10 liters of oxygen from the tent owner upon arrival for 400 yuan 💰. Four of us shared it throughout the night, with leftover for the next day.
🔘 Medication, Food, Clothing:
– Gaoyuan An, motion sickness pills, glucose, erythromycin ointment, ibuprofen
– Chocolate, self-heating food, Happy Water, vitamin C drinks
– Thermal underwear, woolen hat, ultra-thin down jacket
– Lip balm, hand cream, sunscreen, moisturizer, compressed towels
🟡 Checkpoints along the way:
🔘 Everest Nature Reserve Gate: Purchase tickets for 160 yuan (80 yuan if booked online), round-trip fare of 120 yuan. Change to a sightseeing vehicle at the service station for a one-hour ride to Everest Base Camp.
🔘 108 Turns: Traverse the 108 turns, smooth sailing through life. Stunning views but may cause motion sickness; suggest taking motion sickness pills in advance.
🔘 Ujala Pass: Located at the top of the 108 turns, offers views of five snow-capped peaks above 8,000 meters on clear days.
Everest Base Camp 🔘 Rishikesh Golden Mountain: The journey from Shigatse to Everest Base Camp takes over 6 hours. Departing Shigatse at noon, you’ll arrive at the service station around 7:00 PM. The last shuttle to Everest Base Camp departs at 20:40. It’s recommended to depart from Shigatse before 11:00 AM if you want to see the Rishikesh Golden Mountain.
🔘 Everest Disco: Every night at 10:00 PM, young people organize a disco spontaneously! I was still using oxygen on the way up, so I was in good shape when I first arrived. However, it’s important to conserve energy; exhaustion can easily lead to altitude sickness! After the party, people from all over will gather to exchange experiences!
🔘 Night Sky: To prevent accidents, the Everest Base Camp Management Committee starts tent inspections at 1:00 AM. Around 2:00 AM, friends in the group will come to wake you up to take photos of the starry sky.
🔘 Sunrise: Around 7:00 AM, the sunrise occurs. It’s recommended to leave by 6:30 AM, but visibility may be affected by cloudy or misty weather.
🔘 Monuments and Milestones: There are four landmarks where you can take photos. The vertical monument is located in the square, while the horizontal monument with the height of 8848.86 is about a 20-minute walk from the campsite. Due to the slower pace caused by altitude sickness, it’s suggested to leave the campsite before 8:00 AM. Between 8:00 AM and 1:00 PM, there are hardly any people at the base camp. We had the freedom to wait patiently for the clouds and mist to clear away and take photos with the monuments!
- The Third Pole of the World | Vertical Monument | 1 piece
- Everest Altitude Measurement Monument 8848.86 | Horizontal Monument | 2 pieces
- Everest Base Camp 5200 | Vertical Monument | 1 piece
🔘 Highest Altitude Post Office: Large postcards for 5 yuan, small postcards for 3 yuan. You can send blessings from the Roof of the World to your friends here, with sincerity.
