For Malaysian tourists traveling to Tibet for the first time, the most crucial issues revolve around the route to enter Tibet and the required documents. Let’s explore these aspects together.
Essential Travel Documents
1. Passport:
Carry your passport with you at all times; it is indispensable.
2. Tibet Entry Permit:
Contact a travel agency in advance to obtain the Tibet Entry Permit, as it is required for domestic flights and trains within Tibet.
3. Visa:
From January 2023 to December 2024, Malaysian tourists visiting Tibet can enjoy a 15-day visa-free entry policy. If your planned itinerary exceeds 15 days, you will need to apply for a Chinese visa.
4. Alien Travel Permit:
If your itinerary includes regions like Everest, Ali, Shannan, and Nyingchi, you will need to apply for this permit.
5. Military Area Entry Permit:
If your itinerary includes areas like Ali, you will need to apply for this permit.
The Tibet Entry Permit, Alien Travel Permit, and Military Area Entry Permit are arranged by Tibetan travel agencies. Tourists only need to provide the necessary documents, then we will arrange it all for you.
Transportation Guide
1. Aircraft Transfer: You can first fly to major cities in mainland China, such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, etc., and then proceed to Lhasa.
2. Aircraft + Train Transfer: You can first fly to cities in mainland China that have trains departing for Lhasa, such as Chongqing, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xining. Then, take the Qinghai-Tibet train to Lhasa.
3. Entering Tibet from Nepal: You can first fly to Kathmandu and then travel overland or fly to Lhasa. However, please note that this method requires not only a passport and a Tibet Entry Permit but also a group visa for the tour. Therefore, you will need to stay in Kathmandu for a few days.
