April is coming soon, and visiting Ngari Prefecture can be put on the agenda now. It’s often said that if you don’t go to Ngari when visiting Tibet, you can’t truly say you’ve been to Tibet.
Venture into the secret realm of western Tibet, the heavenly Ngari:
1. Mount Kailash: This is the center of the world and the ultimate destination of faith. It is recognized by Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, the indigenous Yungdrung Bon religion of Tibet as the “center of the world”.
2. Yamdrok Lake is as clear as jade, shining with azure waves, referred to as “heavenly paradise, earthly Yamdrok”.
3. Phelku Tso is a high-altitude lake located in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet. The lake is nestled in the Tibetan Plateau at an elevation of approximately 4794 meters (15,725 feet) and is surrounded by majestic snow-capped mountains and vast grasslands, attracting many visitors for sightseeing and photography.
4. Namcha Barwa: known as the “Mountain of the Goddess” or “Goddess Peak” among Tibetans.
5. Lhanagtso: Lhanagtso, also known as the Ghost Lake, is located in Pulan County. At an altitude of 4574 meters, it is separated from the freshwater sacred lakes. It is a slightly salty lake, and therefore its water is not drinkable by humans and animals. This is probably the origin of the name “Ghost Lake”.
6. The earth forest landscape is a great wonder of Ngari. Legend has it that a long time ago, the area around Zanda was a vast ocean, with only water and wind under the blue sky. Later, the earth and forest mountains gradually emerged from the sea.
